Leading Russian business companies pay great attention to developing the regions of presence through: improving the quality of urban environment and infrastructure, developing digitalization and introducing new technologies; social stability and human development; environmental projects; small business and social entrepreneurship initiatives. In 2020, as part of the online stage of the Strategic Planning Leaders Forum, the round table was organized for the first time to assess the contribution of Russian companies to development of territories where they operate. The round table aroused great interest among all participants. To continue a constructive dialogue on cooperation formats and tools of leading business companies with the territories of their operation, it was decided to hold another round table at the Strategic Planning Leaders Forum in 2021 and invite new companies and cities for discussion. Leading business companies gave a special role to developing partnership programmes, creating development institutions, promotion new cooperation formats with local communities jointly with governments and business partners. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the efficiency of cooperation between business and government has broken new ground. The tools for assessing the contribution of business companies to sustainable urban and regional development in Russia are yet to be developed and also need further improvement. In the new version of the Strategy for the Development of Maritime Activities of the Russian Federation up to 2030, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation on 30 August 2019 No 1930-r, the main priorities for the development of the maritime activities in the long term prospective include transition to integrated planning for the development of coastal areas, based on the land-sea component of strategies for the socio-economic development of coastal regions. The planned transfer of a number of powers for the management of maritime activities from the national to the regional authorities will allow the land-sea component of the strategies to be enriched with specific content. Maritime spatial planning (MSP) is one of the most important tools for solving this problem. The Russian MSP Roadmap currently being developed within the framework of the Baltic MSP platform (Capacity4MSP project, Interreg. Baltic Sea Region program) should give an impetus to the development of maritime spatial planning in Russia and its integration into the international MSP process.
